Getting started in therapy isn't always an easy or a clear path. It can be really overwhelming searching for the right therapist, especially with the amount of help out there. The search itself may even add to the multitude of things you’re already feeling and grappling with. You may have an idea of what you’re dealing with or still figuring things out. Regardless of the challenges you're facing—whether they involve unsettling intrusive thoughts, struggles with eating and body image, time-consuming checking behaviors, complex interpersonal relationships, or navigating a life change—I'm here to help.

Welcome

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a passion for helping people to get relief from OCD, anxiety, and eating disorders/disordered eating. It's not just professional but it’s personal… The challenges of OCD and eating disorders have long been a part of my family history and I have seen the courage, strength, and resilience it takes to begin recovery. For a majority of my early education, I could only envision myself helping others through molecular and cellular research, which led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. However, my familial experiences caused a major shift in my career interests. I hung up my lab coat at big pharma, explored my personal values, and went on to obtain advanced degrees in clinical psychology, in hopes of directly helping others navigating similar concerns.

In our therapeutic journey together, I bring both professional expertise and a genuine understanding born from personal experience. My goal is to create a compassionate and empathetic space where you can feel heard, supported, and empowered on your path toward greater well-being. Know that you are not alone, and together, we can navigate the complexities and challenges of your concerns, working towards a place of positive growth and transformation.

Dr. Katie Burns

I provide therapy for all adults (18 years and up) experiencing diverse mental health concerns and relationship issues. My specialty areas include concerns related to OCD, anxiety/panic, and eating disorders/disordered eating/body image. Through my training, I have extensive experience working with specialty groups such as college students, those who present with chronic medical concerns, physicians and medical residents, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community.

What I treat

I am trained in a variety of current and evidence-based practices that inform my work. While these strategies are backed by research to improve many different concerns, all people are different - what might work for someone else with a similar situation might not work for you. I value the individuality of each person I work with - you are a human with a distinct set of life experiences, which means you deserve therapy that is personalized to you. Together, you and I will create a unique plan that helps to address your specific needs with the ultimate goal of helping you to get relief from distress, feel empowered, and live the life you want to live.

How I work

What I bring to therapy

  • Context

I will always provide you with a rationale as to why I am using a certain approach or intervention. I value transparency and I think it is important for you to be fully informed about your treatment.

  • Choice

Your autonomy is important to me. My work is about giving you options and letting you decide what feels right for you. I'll offer different interventions, approaches, and/or tools providing context for each, but you will choose what you're comfortable with given your therapeutic goals.

  • Collaboration

You know your life better than anyone, and I'm here to support and guide you. I'll offer interventions and strategies based on my expertise and training, but you will decide which direction we take. Together, we'll work on goals that matter to you.

  • Connection

Creating a connection with you is invaluable and paramount to my work. I prioritize creating a supportive, empathetic, and genuine environment that fosters a sense of trust and comfort. Oftentimes therapy involves vulnerability to feel better and it is important that you feel seen, validated, and heard to be able to express difficult emotions and work through challenging situations.

I am licensed in state of Georgia and my practice is currently all virtual. I am also registered with PSYPACT to provide telehealth services to the following states:
