Characterized by recurrent and unexpected panic attacks, which are intense episodes of fear or discomfort that peak within minutes and often occur without a clear trigger. Individuals with panic disorder experience an overwhelming sense of terror or impending doom, accompanied by physical symptoms that can be alarming and distressing. An individual with panic disorder often fears having another panic attack and worries about the consequences of that attack.

Heart palpitations, rapid heart rate, sweating, trembling or shaking, chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath or feeling smothered, sensations of choking, dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea or stomach distress, chills or heat sensations, and feelings of numbness or tingling.

Sudden and Intense Fear

A feeling of intense fear or impending doom that seems to come out of nowhere.

Feeling Out of Control

A sense of losing control or feeling detached from oneself or reality.

Fear of Dying or Going Crazy

Individuals might believe they are having a heart attack, going to die, or losing their mind during a panic attack.

Avoidance Behaviors

After experiencing panic attacks, individuals might develop avoidance behaviors, such as avoiding places or situations where they fear another attack might occur, which can interfere significantly with daily life.
